The UCx84x series of control integrated circuits is meticulously engineered to facilitate the seamless implementation of off-line or DC-to-DC fixed-frequency current-mode control schemes, requiring only a minimal number of external components. These advanced circuits boast a host of internal features, including an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) mechanism with a remarkably low start-up current of less than 1 mA, ensuring stable operation even under fluctuating voltage conditions.

Furthermore, these circuits incorporate a precision reference, finely trimmed for accuracy at the error amplifier input, guaranteeing consistent and reliable feedback. Complementing these pivotal features are internal logic circuits designed to ensure latched operation, enhancing overall system robustness and reliability.

At the heart of the UCx84x series lies a pulse-width modulation (PWM) comparator that not only facilitates precise modulation but also provides sophisticated current-limit control, enabling optimized regulation of current flow. Additionally, a totem-pole output stage, engineered to effectively source or sink high-peak currents, ensures seamless operation, particularly when driving N-channel MOSFETs. Notably, the output stage is designed to maintain a low state when in the off state, further enhancing efficiency and performance.

The UCx84x family offers a diverse range of package options, temperature range specifications, maximum duty cycle choices, and customizable turnon/turnoff thresholds and hysteresis ranges. Devices with higher turnon or turnoff hysteresis are tailored for offline power supply applications, providing robust performance even in demanding conditions. Conversely, those with narrower hysteresis ranges are optimized for DC-DC applications, offering precise control in a variety of scenarios.

For extreme temperature environments, the UC184x devices are specified for operation from –55°C to 125°C, ensuring reliable performance under harsh conditions. The UC284x series, specified for operation from –40°C to 85°C, strikes a balance between versatility and performance, suitable for a wide range of applications. Finally, the UC384x series, specified for operation from 0°C to 70°C, offers dependable operation in standard temperature conditions, catering to diverse usage scenarios with ease.
